The Improvements Tab lets you measure the targets and events that impact usage of sites and organizations over time. The Improvements tab is especially useful in noting how events affect targets, and if proposed targets are on track to achieve their intended saving goals.
First, let’s define a target, an event, how they differ, and how they relate.
A Target is a future goal in which savings is hoped to be achieved. For instance, an organization may define a target to decrease their energy usage by 50% by the year 2030. Targets can be associated to a variety of metrics with controls over meter source types, dates, and associations.
This video will focus on the target editor and the types of targets that can be created.
B3 supports two types of targets. Relative and Absolute.
Relative Target
A Relative Target lets the user track performance against a defined baseline by percentage.
Relative targets can track energy usage, carbon emissions, water usage or cost savings.
By default, all meter source types will be targeted, however, the user can drill down into groupings of meter source types, or specific meter source types. When specific meter source types are chosen, an optional secondary meter source type can be selected.
Step 2 of the relative target editor lets the user specify the 12-month baseline period, target percentage and optional achieve date. When entering the target percentage, be sure to specify a plus sign for expected increases and a minus sign for expected savings.
If known, specify the date in which the target is hoped to be achieved by. Because all usage data is month-normalized, the achieve date will automatically be adjusted to the end of the month.
By default, relative targets are applied to all the organizations and sites that you have access to. However, the user can pick specific organizations or sites to apply a target to.
Absolute Target
An Absolute Target is a target based off of known usage data, typically from a modelling tool. Specify the type of data to be entered – energy usage, water usage or cost. Data can be entered in monthly increments or annual. Make sure to specify the meter source types and units.
