Overview
B3 Peer Rating provides a 1-100 percentile ranking based on a site's B3 Benchmark Rating compared to other sites in the B3 Benchmarking database of similar space asset types or primary building type. Sites must be benchmark-complete to receive a B3 Peer rating. Sites in B3 are typically combinations of multiple space usage types. Because of this, peers with the exact same space asset type allocation may be harder to find. Therefore, B3 uses a customized algorithm to find similar sites with a certain tolerance. It is important to note that due to the unique space usages of some sites, it is sometimes not feasible to find enough peers to determine a peer rating. B3 requires at least 15 peers to provide a rating. Gray triangles in the status column indicate when a peer pool is not large enough and thus a rating is NA. Note, some programs have opted out of the B3 application peer pool and only compare to others within their own B3 program peer pool.
Filter Options
Filter button in upper right of the B3 Peer view is unavailable due to the nature of the B3 Peer rating being based solely on the B3 Benchmarking rating of the site’s energy use. Additional peer ratings may be able in the future.
Organizational Level Sites List
At the organization level, the sites list contains summary information about each site and can be sorted by any of the available columns by clicking on a column header. Click a column header twice to sort it in descending order. The default order will be displayed the next time you log in. By default, the sites list in the B3 Peer tab is sorted by peer rating with lower performing sites on top.
Site Level Peer Graph
At the site level, site specific details are reported and below that graphically as an orange bar and compared against the other peers in the pool. The sites are ranked by B3 Peer from 1 to 100. Sites with questionably low ratios (below 0.25) or high ratios (above 2.0) are indicated as darker grayish bars. If the site is in the darker areas, please confirm building and meter data is correct to ensure an accurate Index ratio.
B3 Peer Rating
The site’s 1-100 rating based on the reported number of similar sites. The higher the rating, the better the site’s energy performance compared to similar sites.
Peers
The allocation of space types used to determine peer pool. If there are not enough peers with the exact same space type allocations, the necessary tolerance will be noted. For example, a site is 60% city hall and 40% recreation center thus include office and conference room areas for the city hall but also additional office space, common areas and a gym for the recreation center. The allocation of space asset types for this site is 40% office, 30% conference room, 20% common areas and 10% gym. The B3 algorithm may need to expand the tolerance by ?10% to find enough peers against which to compare. In this case, a 10% tolerance would equate to sites matching 30-50% office, 20-40% conference room, 10-30% common areas and 0-20% gym. Clicking into a specific site will reveal such space usage tolerance details.
Options
By default, B3 compares a site to all similar sites within the B3 application. Some programs have opted to only compare peers within their specific B3 program. Regardless, there is an option to filter the site’s peer pool based on tighter radiuses. Note, there is still the requirement of having at least 15 peers in the pool to be able to report a B3 Peer rating.
Warnings and Errors
Throughout the application, colored triangles may be displayed. These indicate warnings (yellow) and errors (red) with the data or situations where the metric is not applicable or available (gray). Hovering over the triangle will display a message indicating the issue. Resolving warnings and errors typically requires updates to either the Building Editor or Meter Editor.
