ENERGY STAR®
The ENERGY STAR tab displays the 1 to 100 ENERGY STAR score, if available. Unlike the modeled B3 Benchmark Rating, ENERGY STAR scores are based on a statistical average from CBECS data and support a fraction of the building stock. ENERGY STAR also requires that at least 50% of the property be comprised of one of their supported property types.
B3 fully integrates with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager's Data Exchange Web Services. Any time a change is made to a building or a meter in B3, it is immediately transferred and reconciled with an ENERGY STAR property so that a score can be gathered.
What does ENERGY STAR eligible mean?
Sites are deemed ENERGY STAR eligible and able to retrieve a score when they meet the following criteria:
- Site must contain at least one building
- Each building must have a valid address, city and zip code specified
- Summation of space usage type percentages must equal 100%
- Valid original occupancy date must be specified
- Site must have at least one meter defined
- Every defined meter must contain a continuous complete 12-month period of meter readings. Though B3 is flexible, ESPM is not and thus to obtain a complete 12-month period, 13-meter readings may be required since readings are often mid-month to mid-month.
- If a meter has recently been connected, a date connected should be entered to inform the system that no readings prior to that date will be entered
- If a meter is no longer in service, a date disconnected should be entered to inform the system that no readings after that date will be entered
- Meter readings can be no more than 65 days long
- Sites must contain no more than 25% of a space types ESPM deems as ‘Other’
- Sites must contain at least 50% of a single eligible space type
Beyond this initial screening, ESPM may still refuse a score based on a variety of reasons. Please read the 'Eligibility criteria for the 1-100 ENERGY STAR score' to learn more.
Filter Options
Filter button in upper right allows selection of either energy or water mode. Currently ESPM water scores are only available for multi-family properties.
Organizational Level Site List
At the organization level, the sites list contains summary information about each site and can be sorted by any of the available columns by clicking on a column header. Click a column header twice to sort it in descending order. The default order will be displayed the next time you log in. By default, the sites list in the ENERGY STAR tab is sorted by score with lower performing sites on top.
Site Level Details
At the site level, site specific details are reported and below that monthly historical ESPM scores for eligible building types. At the bottom of the monthly graph, you can slide or drag the end points to adjust the duration.
ENERGY STAR Score
The ENERGY STAR Score site’s a value of 1-100. Sites achieving an ENERGY STAR score of 75 or above may be eligible to apply for ENERGY STAR certification. Please read the ENERGY STAR certification for your building to learn more.
Property Use Details
Initially, all B3 buildings are set to default values for ESPM Property Use Details when available. It is highly recommended and provides a more accurate ESPM score to specify actual values for each use detail. Some use details do not have defaults and may need to be completed before a score can be obtained (e.g. swimming pool: indoor or outdoor and size). The ESPM Glossary can assist with clarifying use details. Though they are designated at the building level, ESPM use details are currently managed within the B3 Site Editor.
Connection Wizard
If the site is already being tracked in ESPM, utilize the B3 ENERGY STAR Connection Wizard to link existing ESPM properties and meters. This allows usage data in ESPM to be imported into B3 either as a one-time operation or an ongoing basis. Please see the ENERGY STAR Connection Wizard help for further information. Existing connections will be listed in here.
Warnings and Errors
Throughout the application, colored triangles may be displayed. These indicate warnings (yellow) and errors (red) with the data or situations where the metric is not applicable or available (gray). Hovering over the triangle will display a message indicating the issue. Resolving warnings and errors typically requires updates to either the Building Editor or Meter Editor.
