With the advent of version 12, B3 Benchmarking now fully supports the tracking of waste. Waste tracking includes all the power and flexibility of tracking energy and water in B3 but also includes exciting new features specific to waste.
Waste can be tracked by four primary categories, encompassing trash, recyclables, organics and donations/reuse. Within those categories, specific waste materials can be specified. Mixed Use types are chosen by default but can be changed at any time. Many of the waste material types include weight conversion factors when specifying volume-based units.
Throughout B3, waste is measured, monitored and reported on in pounds. However, waste data can be entered in weight units such tons, kilograms or metric tons. Additionally, waste can be entered in volume units such as gallons, cubic yards, liters or cubic meters. When choosing these volume-based units, weights will be calculated based on volume in the new Waste Itemizer tool.;
The B3 Meter Editor has been enhanced to allow tracking of Fees and Taxes across all meter source types. For waste meters, fees can be broken down further by contamination fees and miscellaneous fees.
Weight-based units can be entered directly into the meter editor. The row entries within the meter editor typically represent a bill or invoice. Waste bills typically represent weekly, or biweekly pickups, sometimes from multiple bins. To track waste bills at a more granular level, use the new Waste Itemizer tool.
The Waste Itemizer helps track multiple bins and/or multiple pickups within a billing period. Enter a pickup date, and weight. The total weight will be summated. Bin Size and Percent Full are optional entries and not a part of the calculation.
When tracking waste by bin volume-size such as cubic yards, the Waste Itemizer tool will be the primary tool for entering data. Enter the pickup date, bin size and percent full. The weight will be calculated using average weight conversions based on the material type.
Once 12 months of waste data is established, the full breadth of B3 functionality can be utilized. Five new dashboard widgets have been developed to highlight waste. The waste widget details waste within the most recent period, highlighting the amount diverted from landfill.
B3 Benchmarking currently does not include support for a modelled waste B3 Benchmark or peer rating. It does include full integration with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, including the 87 waste material source types and disposal destination.
Waste baseline metrics can be measured and monitored to compare how waste amounts have changed over time.
The Visualizations and Improvements tab includes new templates and functionality to support waste reporting by specific types, units and time periods.
All of the powerful import and export tools have been enhanced to support waste data as well. Meter Reading exports now include columns for taxes, contamination fees and miscellaneous fees. Also included is a new waste itemizer export.
Waste is an add on subscription, so users may not be able to see it enabled
